Korean pop sensation Rain is going to appear in his first Hollywood film, "Ninja Assassin!"
From Yahoo News:
Now I only know of Rain because he is Stephen Colbert's arch nemesis, appearing in the same "100 Most Influential People" issue in '06, and in '07, topping a reader-voted list of the top ten most influential people (who didn't make it into '07's list), and beating Stephen out of first place. Colbert responded by creating a smokin' Korean music video that blew Rain out of the water!
Truthiness Speaking: Of course Rain is joining the Hollywood elite now. He's just another one of them now, an America-hater offending the country, burning flags, and getting high. Just watch. He'll make his angular face into the tabloids when he's caught smoking a fatty and sleeping with Lindsey Lohan!
Actually I'm quite intrigued in the name of the movie. "Ninja Assassin!?!?!?" Here's the IMDB for the film, though it is merely mentioned and has no cast or synopsis as of yet. Keep tabs!
From Yahoo News:
SEOUL (AFP) - Singer and actor Rain, one of South Korea's biggest stars, will play a leading role in a Hollywood film for the first time in his rapidly blooming career, a US entertainment agency said Wednesday.
The 26-year-old, real name Jeong Ji-hoon, will star in "Ninja Assassin," an action flick directed by James McTeigue, the William Morris Agency (WMA) said.
"This is such a huge opportunity for me. It seems like a dream," Rain told journalists here.
Scheduled to begin shooting later this year, the movie will be jointly produced by Joel Silver and the Wachowski brothers. The Wachowskis directed the acclaimed Matrix series of films.
Rain made his Hollywood debut in Speed Racer, also produced by the Wachowski brothers, but only in a supporting role. The film is scheduled to hit screens in May.
Rain has come to personify the "Korean Wave" of pop music, films and TV dramas sweeping across Asia.
He was named one of the "100 Most Influential People" by Time magazine in 2006 and one of the "100 Most Beautiful People" last year by People magazine.
He recently signed a contract with WMA, a New York-based agency that represents entertainers such as troubled singer Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and Russell Crowe.
"We're a business with a number of artists who are really international artists, and we look at Rain as the same," said John Mass, a WMA vice-chief.
"He's not just popular in Korea or Asia, but he's popular throughout the world."
